About Brian Faulkner

|
Brian’s experience in dog training and behaviour,
animal control and management stretches back over 30 years, including ten
years employed by East Dorset District Council in the UK, eventually
becoming the Senior Animal Welfare Officer, responsible for stray dog control,
inspection and licensing of animal welfare establishments, and enforcing of
both local and national dog control legislation.
As the primary post holder, Brian first had to advise in structuring and implementing an animal control strategy for that authority. On implementation of the UK Environmental Protection Act, in 1990, the UK Association of District Councils adopted the EDDC policy as best practice and circulated it to other UK authorities under the title “Dealing With Stray Dogs”.
In 1999, the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) appointed Brian as a Field Officer, being promoted to Animal Control Manager in 2003. Whilst at WSPA Brian worked, globally, on a variety of projects aiming to improve the welfare of both companion animals and wildlife.
Much of Brian’s work has been in the field of rabies control, offering humane strategies in dealing with a very tragic problem that affects both humans and animals in many parts of the world.
A few among the many projects that Brian worked on whilst at WSPA were:
- 1999 Establishing a humane stray dog control & shelter programme in Kosovo
- 2000 Animal control programme Cuba
- 2001 Animal control programme Sierra Leone
- 2002/2003 Animal control programme Northern Quebec
- 2002/03/04 Animal control programme Sri Lanka
- 2003 WSPA Disaster Relief (Veterinary Aid to Iraq)
